Association for Intelligent Machinery

JCIS is governed by the board of directors of the Association for Intelligent machinery (AIM), an organization composed of distinguished researchers dedicated to achieving excellence in scientific research and technological development. Paul P. Wang, professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Duke University and Editor-in-Chief of Information Sciences Journal serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Professor Wang is also General Conference Chair of JCIS. AIM believes that promoting brain and cognitive research will help lead to commercialization of intelligent engineering systems. The association is committed to bringing together isolated research communities, recognizing that researchers who work together synergistically can accomplish superior commercial products.

AIM also presents the Information Science Award during JCIS. The award recognizes the achievements of leading researchers for their enduring contributions to scientific knowledge, particularly in the area of intelligent systems. The 2003 award will be presented to Emmett Leith, Schlumberger Professor of Engineering at the University of Michigan and Walter Freeman, Professor of the Graduate School of Neurobiology at UC Berkeley. Previous award recipients include John H. Holland, Lotfi A. Zadeh, Azriel Rosenfeld, Stephen Grossberg, Karl Pribram, Thomas Huang, and James Anderson.
