Assistant Research Professor
Department of Electrical and Computer EngineeringCenter for Metamaterials and Integrated Plasmonics
Pratt School of Engineering
Duke University
The Pratt School of Engineering invites applications for a non-tenure track research faculty position in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This position will also carry the title of Technical Coordinator for the Center for Metamaterials and Integrated Plasmonics, an interdisciplinary center at Duke University. Candidates must hold a PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Optics or Electrical Engineering; and must have at least three years of post-doctoral experimental research experience in optics, metamaterials, plasmonics or a closely related field. The department seeks candidates who have demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence in scholarly research to contribute to existing research and educational programs, as well as develop new research directions for the department.
The candidate will be initially responsible for directing research in the area of integrated plasmonics, specifically the development of long-range plasmon based optics. The candidate should be familiar with numerical techniques for the design of integrated optical structures, including knowledge of optical design packages such as COMSOL Multiphysics, Optiwave, or RSoft. The candidate should also have experience with micro-fabrication technologies, including deposition techniques, mask generation, lithography, atomic force microscopy and other techniques for the fabrication and characterization of integrated plasmon optical structures. The candidate will be expected to design and implement plasmonic components.
As Technical Coordinator for the Center, the candidate will be partially responsible for supervising Center students and other junior researchers. The candidate will also serve as technical liason for Center affiliates and may be asked to attend reviews and other Center related meetings, providing information on Center related interests. In this capacity, the candidate will work closely with the Center Director and the Center Business Manager.
Regardless of specific technical area, the successful applicant must demonstrate an ability to develop a world-class research program and be capable of obtaining competitive external research funding. International experience, experience with government funding agencies and research management experience are desirable for this position.
Applicants should submit a cover letter (email, address and phone number must be included) describing their interests and qualifications, a curriculum vitae along with the names and addresses of three references and three publications to: Autumn Wenner, Center for Metamaterials and Integrated Plasmonics, 305 Teer Building, Duke University, Box 90271, Durham, NC 27708.
